Marisians at all levels immersed themselves in getting everything set for the “A Day with Friends” activity that marked the feast day of St. Candida Maria de Jesus, the mother foundress of the Hijas de Jesus Congregation, on August 9. The Stella Maris Academy of Davao (SMAD) welcomed visitors from various families and public schools for this cherished tradition. This event embodies the spirit of filiation and fraternity, where God the Father has made everyone brothers and sisters.
This momentous event also emphasized treating others of any race and color like family. Families from less fortunate areas and students from public schools joined the celebration for a day filled with joy and laughter. They were welcomed wholeheartedly by the SMAD community. They were also given much attention and care, starting from the celebration of the Eucharist, which opened the celebration with such solemnity and reverence to Almighty God for the gift of St. Candida to the whole Hijas de Jesus community and the world.
Each classroom transformed into a room full of laughter and excitement, featuring games encouraging interaction and teamwork during a short but meaningful program. Talented dancers showcased their skills while classes entertained guests with heartwarming songs. One of the essential portions of the program was introducing St. Candida’s life and sacred works to the visitors. During recess, everyone shared food, fostering a sense of fraternity and togetherness and leaving a smile on the guests’ faces as they went home with goodies and beautiful memories of friendship.
By the end of the day, the Marisians gained invaluable lessons in kindness and helpfulness. This day not only celebrated our traditions but also strengthened the bonds between the children of St. Candida and the people St. Candida wanted to help. It was a reminder of the importance of treating others as brothers and sisters, reinforcing St. Candida’s legacy.
